The weekly Culinary Market at The Shops at Kukui‘ula is like the most wonderful farmers’ market you’ve ever seen—with a tropical twist. No wonder it’s such a popular destination for visitors and locals alike.
The market begins taking shape in early afternoon, as vendors arrange their wares on colorfully patterned pareos. By 4 p.m., every table is covered with enticing products: homegrown fruits and vegetables, preserves, sauces, condiments, baked goods, T-shirts, and so much more. (Needless to say, locally crafted items make distinctive gifts or souvenirs.) The atmosphere is friendly and festive—the entire marketplace teems with eager shoppers, while the air is enlivened by the mellow sounds of live Hawaiian music and the aromas of ripening fruit and sizzling sliders, cooking on a grill.
All of Wailani Kaua‘i’s accommodations include kitchens, and many guests rely on the Culinary Market as a source of delicious breakfast fare, from gorgeously ripe, sweet papayas to tasty muffins and scones. Others make an impromptu meal from the prepared foods on offer, or continue on for drinks or dinner at one of The Shops at Kukui‘ula’s superb restaurants.
Even if you’re taking a well-earned vacation from cooking, you’ll still find an abundance of things to enjoy at the Culinary Market. Week in and week out, it’s a must-experience feast for the senses, filled with delightful sights, enchanting sounds, tantalizing smells, and a lovely sense of camaraderie.
